WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today announced $1.26 million for Special Transportation Circumstances (STC) Grants to fund rail capital projects in Alaska and Wyoming. Funding is made available by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2017 (2017 Appropriations) for the Terminal Wireless Communications Positive Train Control Project in Alaska and the Greater Junction Railroad Rehabilitation Project in Wyoming.

WASHINGTON - The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today announced that it is holding three stakeholder educational seminars to discuss two FRA regulations. Specifically, the day long sessions will focus on June 2017 amendments to 49 CFR Part 219 - Control of Alcohol and Drug Use, and the implementation requirements of 49 CFR Part 243 - Training, Qualification and Oversight for Safety-Related Railroad Employees. Both regulations were issued in response to statutory requirements set forth in the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (RSIA).

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (US DOT’s) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today released a status update on its efforts to assist railroads in implementing positive train control systems (PTC), along with the railroads’ self-reported progress for the fourth quarter of 2017.
At the direction of Secretary Elaine L. Chao, the FRA is taking a proactive approach to ensure railroads acquire, install, test and fully implement certified PTC systems in time to meet the congressional interim deadline of December 31, 2018.

A railroad industry professional with more than 45 years of experience, Mr. Batory is widely respected, having worked successfully for small and large rail carriers across the U.S. Prior to his nomination to serve as Administrator, Batory was President & Chief Operating Officer of Conrail, the eighth largest freight railroad in America from 2004 until his retirement in April 2017.
